I've been wanting to line up a book that explores our relationship with media for a while. So much of what we consume, especially on social media, is ultimately trying to sell us something, which got me thinking about what we're all consuming it for. I like to think novels can tell us something true about the time we live in, whether intentionally or not.

My book hunting led me to White Noise by Don DeLillo. Published in 1985, it's about a family navigating consumerism, media noise, and an absurd obsession with dying. Makes me wonder if reaching for noise and things to buy in order to avoid something bigger is something we've always done, or if today's version is on a different scale entirely. 

I think it'll be insightful to explore these themes of modern society, from a book written well before smartphones or social media! Looking forward to the discussion.
