About Thiemers English Book Club with Fran as host: We read novels that gained cultural importance by sparking sustained conversation in their societies. We are less interested in whether a book was universally loved than whether it was debated, read differently by different groups, and articulated experiences or concerns that are often uncomfortable or hard to name.

The English Reading Club has previously read, The Copenhagen Trilogy by Tove Ditlevsen, The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi and Sula by Toni Morrison
