This is a romance between a Japanese novelist and her Taiwanese interpreter set in 1938 colonial Taiwan, but the twist is the whole thing is presented as a "rediscovered" historical text, complete with fabricated footnotes and afterwords, so you're constantly questioning who's telling the story and what they're leaving out. It rewards deeper reading and has lots to unpack, so I look forward to discussing this with you! And if you've been seeing this one everywhere lately, it just won the International Booker Prize, so reading it now is a great opportunity to join the buzz.
